Pastel is in fair to good condition. The piece in general is in good, used condition. There is, however, a noticeable scratch across the work--see photo #2. It is a diagonal gouge that consists of three scratches. It starts in the white part of the painting, extends to a scratch in the blue area and then finishes in the green exterior. The remainder of the piece is in remarkably good condition with only minute other scuffs that are not noticeable considering it is a pastel on two pieces of paper affixed to board--without protective glass or plexiglass. Due to the damage, I am offering this for a great price. Signed on the verso of this interesting pastel piece, this work by Peter Kitchell is a calming soft abstract that has wonderful depth and movement. It consists of two pieces of paper--one acts as a frame--see photo# 3. The other acts as the framed work. The interplay of colors between the two mounted papers creates a lovely swirling blend of green, blue and yellow color. It is finished off on the verso with a triangular "stand" or hanging piece consisting of two pieces of board glued to the board which is perfect for hanging on a wall! In order to protect it from any further damage, however, I would probably frame it in plexiglass. It is fine hanging on a protected wall but I don't think that is ideal for such a delicate piece. Kitchell is an artist known for his watercolors, photographs, mixed media pieces as well as highly collectible offset lithographs which he frequently signed as works in their own right.
