Dimensions: Visible image measures 7-1/2 x 5 inches; in period studio frame measuring 12-1/2 x 10 inches. Condition: Not examined out of frame but appears to be in very good overall condition; minor wear to frame. Notes: Signed in the image, lower left, with artist penned note on rear giving title and other related painting information. Biography: Carolyn Bunch (American, 20th century) Carolyn Bunch, a native of Fairfield, Iowa moved to Las Cruces from California in 1953. She has been involved in the arts as an artist, a public school teacher, and a gallery owner of Adobe Patio Gallery. Before coming to Las Cruces, she studied art for two years at the Chicago Art Institute, as well as Parsons College, and New Mexico State University. Bunch earned a degree in art education from New Mexico State University and became one of Las Cruces Public School's three elementary art teachers, traveling among schools across the district for 15 years before her retirement in 1974. She opened her first gallery in 1983 in a renovated adobe building in Mesilla that dates back to 1853. Bunch was a charter member of Border Artists, the region's oldest professional artists' group, which has worked to raise the profile of Southern New Mexico’s art community and held exhibits and galas to benefit regional cultural groups and charities. In 1994, she was cofounder of the annual Doña Ana Arts Councils ArtsHop, which has evolved into the monthly Downtown Ramble and other gallery tours in Southern New Mexico. She is a member of the New Mexico Watercolor Society, Southern Chapter, and the Las Cruces Art Association, the Pastel Association of El Paso and the Mesilla Valley Art Guild. The International Museum of Art, located in the heart of El Paso’s historic Rio Grande District, houses the Carolyn Bunch collection.
