Description

MARGO MANDETTE - PASTEL ON PAPER- NATIVE AMERICAN (NAVAJO) THEMES- STILL LIFE - LISTED ARTIST Pastel on paper painting, still life - Navajo turquoise jewelry and basket. Painted in Arizona in the 1980s by listed artist Margo Mandette (1940 - ). Mandette was born in Bordeaux France on St. Patrick's Day 1940. Extraordinarily talented, she was admitted to the Belle's De Artes Academy at 13. After moving to Arizona, Mandette started teaching while pursuing her passion for painting. Soon she had started to earn more money from selling her own art than she did all year as a teacher so decided to become a full-time artist. She opened her own gallery and teaching facility. She called it Casa De Artiste's and showed the work of many prominent local artists and taught there as well. Provenance: Originally purchased by Valley National Bank in 1985. Valley National Bank of Arizona was an Arizona institution for over 92 years, having been founded in 1900 (14 years before statehood) and acquired by Bank One in 1992. The bank was one of Arizona’s leading financial institutions during the 20th century and the last major independent bank in Arizona at the time of its acquisition by Bank One. Framed artwork: 26.5”w x 20.5”h Artwork is 23.5” x 17.5” Artwork is in excellent condition. The frame is in great shape with some light scratches and areas of west commensurate with age.
