Louise Lemp Pabst was a family member of the Lemp Brewery clan of the St. Louis area. Louise married into the Pabst brewery clan in Milwaukee, marrying her first cousin, Edwin Pabst (before it was illegal). Louise Lemp studied art in France prior to WWII, while there studying with M. Aubrey, well known French member of the Acadimie Beaux Arts. She won a silver medal in an exhibit there. Returning to America when war broke out, she established herself in the Milwaukee area as a portrait artist for the higher echelon of society there, though did not exclusively to portraits. This page with 4 painted studies and some pencil sketching measures approx 13" x 10", the rectangular studies on the page are approx 4" x 3", done in watercolor. Louise did larger works that included equestrian paintings, as well as some landscapes. She died in the early 1970's. There are plans afoot for a major show of her work in Milwaukee.
