Italian School Watercolor & Tempera - Castel Dell Ovo in Naples, Signed For your consideration is a very fine watercolor painting Masterly rendered depiction of an Italian coastal view, centered on an important landmark - Castel Dell Ovo (aka Egg Castle) Castel dell'Ovo is a seafront castle in Naples, located on the former island of Megaride, now a peninsula, in the Gulf of Naples in Italy. This is the oldest castle in Naples, with structures dating back to a Roman villa from 1st century BC. There is a legend about Virgil, the Ancient Roman poet, who put a magical egg into the foundations to support the fortifications. If this egg would've been broken, the castle would have been destroyed and series of disastrous events would follow. The drawing is signed lower right.
