Description

This is a wonderful and very well done Antique Old 19th c. Early California Plein Air Landscape Painting, Watercolor on Paper, dating to 1893. This artwork depicts an expansive farmstead, with numerous agave plants, yuccas, and a majestic mountain vista in the distance. In the foreground to the right of the scene are two small homes or barns. Signed illegibly in graphite and dated "1893" in the lower right corner. Perhaps you recognize the artist or their work? This small gem is approximately 16 1/4 x 19 1/4 inches (including frame.) Actual artwork is approximately 4 5/8 x 8 5/8 inches. Very good condition for age, with some light scuffing and edge wear to the much later Mid-Century gilded wood frame. This painting was created only 50 years after Mexico ceded California to the United States, and thus this artwork likely depicts the homestead of an affluent Californio land owning family. Acquired from an old collection in Los Angeles County, California. If you like what you see, I encourage you to make an Offer.
